Welcome to the Westmoreland Middle School Library

The WMS library serves 550 students in grades 5-8. The primary mission of the library is to support the curriculum of the school. The library contains approximately 5,200 age-appropriate items to fulfill this mission. Regular weeding and collection development keeps the collection moderately up-to-date and relevant. Sufficient audiovisual equipment, housed in the library, is available for teachers to use in the classroom.

The library has a flexible schedule. Reading classes visit the library every two weeks. Students may check in and out books during these visits. Students may also stop by the library during other times of the day, such as Rx, lunch, activity period, and between classes.

Students may have two books checked out at any one time. Books are checked out for two weeks. They may be renewed for an additional two weeks. There is a ten-cents-per-day fine for overdue books. A 3-day grace period is given in which students may return an overdue book without penalty.

There is an ongoing promotion for the appreciation of reading through events sponsored by the library. Such events include book fairs, the Nashville Sounds Reading Club program, and Battle of the Books. The library also plays a role in the Beta Club’s Living Literature project.

Since its conception as a middle school in 1988 the library has had three librarians: Rhonda Bruce, Tim Copeland, and Tyla Creasy.
